Evra Pill Janssen Cilag

Evra Patch

Evra patches are contraceptive patches that are a convenient, but effective alternative to conventional oral contraceptives like 'the pill'. The contraceptive patch can effectively stop you from falling pregnant by supplying your body with two contraceptive hormones, which work together to prevent pregnancy in three ways.

You will use the Evra contraceptive patch for three weeks of the month only, but you’ll have continuous protection for the entire month, provided it was applied correctly. The patch only needs to be changed every seven days during the patch-on weeks, which some women find more convenient than remembering to take a contraceptive pill every day.

You can buy Evra online from euroClinix, after completing a free online consultation with us. This consultation will be treated with complete confidentiality and will only be checked by one of our registered doctors to make sure that you can safely use this contraceptive. If your consultation is approved, a prescription will be issued and sent to our pharmacy where your medications will be dispatched via free overnight courier.

What are the benefits of using the Evra patch?

Evra contraceptive patches provide almost 100% effective contraceptive cover, which means that you don’t have to take any additional steps to prevent pregnancy before having sex. You also don’t have to remember to use Evra patches every day, as Evra only needs to be changed once a week. These contraceptive patches won’t interrupt your daily routine as they are only changed once a week.

How does it work?

Evra patches work in the same way as combined contraceptives, but instead of the hormones being ingested, they’re passed into your system through your skin. The combination of the synthetic ethinylestradiol and norelgestromin - which are artificial versions of oestrogen and progestogen, respectively - influence your body’s natural cycle, so that you stop ovulating. Evra patches also increase the thickness of cervical mucous so that sperm can’t enter the womb and stops the womb lining from thickening, so that a fertilised egg can’t attach itself.

Who can take it?

Most women between the ages of 18 and 45 can buy Evra patches safely online, but it’s important that you mention in your consultation with our doctor if you are currently using any medications or have underlying health problems, as this may influence your suitability to safely use Evra patches.

Who can’t take it?

You shouldn’t use Evra patches if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or if you are allergic to the ingredients. If you have a history of thrombosis, high blood pressure, have had a heart attack, experience migraines or have high cholesterol, it’s best not to use these contraceptive patches.

How do you use it?

You use Evra patches for three weeks of your four week (28-day) cycle, which means that you’ll have a seven day break every three weeks. You’ll be completely protected for those seven days, if you used the patch correctly for the first part of your cycle.

If you start using your first patch on the first day of your menstrual cycle, you’ll have complete protection straight away. The day you use your first patch will be your ‘Patch Change Day’, mark this on a calendar if you’re afraid that you’ll forget it.

Choose a spot for the patch on your buttocks, upper arms, upper back or abdomen, as these are places where it’s unlikely to be rubbed off by tight clothing. Make sure that your skin is clean and dry before you secure the patch.

The Evra patch shouldn’t be influenced by your everyday activities, even bathing, showering or swimming, but if it does become loose at the edges, simply press it down. After you’ve worn the patch for seven days, you must remove it and replace it immediately. When replacing the patch, position it on a different area of skin to avoid skin irritation.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are unusual with this birth control medication, but if they do occur they are normally very mild and will pass as soon as your body becomes used to the contraceptive hormones. The most common side effects are headaches, nausea, tiredness, moodiness, breast tenderness or stomach pain and bloating. If you experience anything more serious or prolonged, speak to your doctor straight away.
