The UK’s first ‘impotence solution’ coffee has been launched.

De’Longhi’s Amore Del Caffe combines a rare Indian coffee bean with oysters. The beverage costs £39 per 100g package, with all proceeds going towards MacMillan Cancer Support.

The Amore Del Caffe is legitimate and legal. Yet another substance known as Magic Coffee Powder caused controversy recently. Magic Coffee Powder contains aphrodisiacs, as well as sildenafil – the active ingredient in Viagra.

A natural impotence solution?

Magic Coffee Powder’s manufacturers say it is an all-natural impotence solution. The powder contains Horny Goat Weed (a Japanese herb), goji berry and American ginseng.

However, authorities have been unconvinced. The American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have asked manufacturers to voluntarily recall the product. In Malaysia, officials seized 900 boxes of Magic Coffee, worth over $20,000, last year. A Malaysian health ministry official said: “Investigations revealed that the distributor attempted to mislead the public by claiming that the coffee mixture could provide an energy boost, besides being beneficial for men.”

Watermelons, pork and celery are among the foods that have been said to have an aphrodisiac effect.

Reason for scepticism

There is good reason to be sceptical about Magic Coffee, and other supposed herbal impotence solutions. Some natural plants and remedies can indeed have an aphrodisiac effect. But it is often unclear exactly what herbal Viagra products contain.

Viagra, Levitra and Cialis are the only specially engineered products that can effectively treat erectile dysfunction. Alternatives to these drugs are unlikely to be as efficient. They may be more expensive, and may cause unexpected health problems.

For an effective solution to erectile dysfunction, talk to your doctor about the treatments that are most appropriate for you. An estimated 1 in 2 men over the age of 40 experience impotence.
