Chlamydia is one of the most common STIs affecting people between the ages of 16 and 25 in the UK and a recent discovery by scientists could help with the future development of a vaccine.
Researchers from Southampton University in the UK and Ben-Gurion University in Israel were able to access the chlamydia trachomatis genome. Scientists have been trying for years to separate the complete genetic make-up of the bacteria in order to be able to develop better treatments and a potential vaccine, which makes this breakthrough significant.
They discovered the genome after treating the bacterium with calcium ions, which enabled them to introduce foreign DNA.....
