Intrinsa Side Effects
Intrinsa is a prescription-only medication for treating female sexual dysfunction, specifically for women who have had their ovaries removed through surgery. If you are prescribed Intrinsa, you will be given directions and warned of any side effects that you may experience. In order to get the best results, you must use it as directed by your doctor, and report any side effects you experience during treatment.
How to use it
Intrinsa comes in the form of a transdermal patch that is stuck directly to the skin. It is stuck to the skin just below your belly button. It is important to stick the patches in a different spot every time you use one to avoid any rashes or skin irritations from occurring. The hormone testosterone is absorbed by the skin from the patch and is transmitted directly into your blood flow. The patch should be changed twice weekly for a minimum of three months and consequently as the doctor directs.
The patch itself is the size of an egg and is virtually transparent. Women suffering from FSD will barely even notice it’s there, as it is designed to be as discreet as possible.
Please remember that these patches must be used alongside oestrogen therapy. If you are not taking oestrogen, then this treatment will cause some unpleasant side effects.
What will Intrinsa do for me?
Intrinsa should raise your libido and sex drive, and eradicate the primary symptoms of female sexual dysfunction. With this treatment, you can expect results in as little as three months. With very little effort on your part, apart from regular updates with your doctor and the simple changing of the patch twice a week, you can experience a healthy, strong and exciting sex life again.
Does Intrinsa have any side effects?
As with most prescription treatments, Intrinsa side effects are common, though not all women will experience them. The type of side effects, and their severity, will be not be the same for each user as people can react to medications in different ways.
The majority of Intrinsa side effects are typically hormonal effects that are caused by the release of testosterone into the blood. If any of the side effects persist, you must contact a doctor to discuss alternative treatments or potential changes to your dosage.
Some of the Intrinsa side effects you may experience are:
- Irritation of the skin where the patch is applied
- Nasal congestion
- Dry mouth
- Acne
- Vaginal burning or itching
- Anxiety
- Deepening of the voice
- Enlarged clitoris
- Facial hair growth
- Breast pain
- Migraines
Why would I experience side effects?
This is a hormone treatment that comes in the form of a transdermal patch. The patch is stuck to your body and the hormone testosterone is transferred from the patch directly in to your blood stream. Testosterone, which is a significant part of the female libido, will gradually be raised, slowly reversing your symptoms of FSD.
Testosterone, though it is produced in the female body, is primarily a male sexual hormone, and reintroducing it can lead to a hormonal imbalance. Experiencing excessive growth of facial hair or an enlarged clitoris, for example, will be the results of having an imbalance of testosterone in the body. These effects should be temporary, but if any of these Intrinsa side effects persist, do not hesitate to contact a doctor.
