Psychological Causes of Premature Ejaculation
While there are many physical causes that can be the reason for the onset of premature ejaculation, there are also psychological causes that cannot be ignored when doing a diagnosis. Psychological causes of premature ejaculation can be treated with therapy, communication and coaching, and thus it’s important to voice any mental, emotional or psychological problems when consulting with a doctor.
Some of the psychological causes:
ConditioningThe theory behind conditioning is that men who suffer form premature ejaculation due to it have been affected by previous experiences. Men, for example, may encounter pressure to perform quickly when they are younger in order to not get caught. If the first few times a man encounters sex are under high pressure to perform quickly, then he may be conditioned to orgasm very quickly.
Traumatic sexual experience or strict upbringingMen who have suffered a traumatic sexual experience will may continue to associate it with sex. This will generally leave them anxious and nervous, which could lead to premature ejaculation. Men who have experienced a strict upbringing may also suffer from this condition.
AnxietyAnxiety to perform and the anxiety of failure are two strong psychological causes of premature ejaculation. If a man goes into sexual intercourse nervous and anxious, and constantly thinking about over performing, etc he will more than likely not be able to control his orgasm and suffer from premature ejaculation.
DepressionDepression is not just a condition that attacks the mind, but the body too. Feelings of emotional failure, sadness and depression translate into lethargic, heavy and tired physical feelings. So if a man is suffering form depression then he is more likely to experience premature ejaculation.
Low self esteem and confidenceGenerally occurring in younger men who have not had as much experience, low self-esteem or a lack of confidence can be a reason for men to suffer from premature ejaculation.
Guilt and stressThese are two psychological causes of this condition that can leave a man distracted during sex. Worry, exhaustion and fatigue from stress and guilt can also lead to problems.
